As the verdict in the Zimmerman trial draws near, I urge those of you living in major cities to be ready for possible riots. If you live in or around Orlando you need to be especially concerned and making preparations. As we’ve seen before, when verdicts are handed down there are people who will quickly turn to riots and violent protests if they disagree with the decision of the court. Orlando police are ramping up in anticipation of the verdict being reached sometime in the next few days. They’ve issued two statements that in essence say “It’s alright to be vocal, but we don’t want you to be violent”.

There’s good reason for citizens in metropolitan areas, especially in or around Orlando Florida, to be concerned with the verdict being reached.
In April of 1992, after four police officers responsible for the beating of Rodney King were acquitted, riots broke out across Los Angeles forcing citizens to fend for themselves as the local government was unable to maintain order. Armed store owners were forced to defend their property. Citizens were left to fend for themselves as police pulled back from many areas in an effort to contain the violence. During the LA riots 53 people were killed and over 2,000 were injured. Order was restored only after the National Guard and Marines from Camp Pendelton were called in to stop the rioting. It took six long days for the riots to stop, and that can be an eternity if you’re caught in the middle of it unprepared.
This is one of the reasons we need to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. When local, state or federal governments fail things can, and do, turn ugly very quickly. Having the means to protect yourself is critical. Having enough supplies on hand to be able to endure 2 weeks without being able to buy food at the grocery store or to get water from the tap is a must, and many experts would recommend having supplies that could last for much longer periods of time. If you’re not prepared right now, you better get prepared ASAP.
Regardless of the verdict that’s reached, I hope people have enough common sense to not riot or take to the streets in violent protests. Unfortunately, as we’ve seen in the past, we can’t rely on the good nature of our fellow man so I advise you to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
