The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Florida lawmakers voted down the proposed repeal of the states “stand your ground” law. The merits of the law were called into question after George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin who was assaulting the neighborhood watch captain.
The media tried to paint Martin as an innocent victim and Zimmerman as an armed vigilante looking to kill Martin because he was Black. Despite the media spin, the truth slowly came out that Martin was the thug, Zimmerman acted in self defense and the jury agreed thus acquitting Zimmerman of any wrong doing. The media even tried to spin the Arizona Watermelon Fruit Juice (called “tea” by the drive-by media) and Skittles Martin was carrying at the time of the shooting as evidence of his youthful innocence when in reality these are two ingredients for a powerful hallucinogenic street drug known as “lean”, a drug he was known to use.
Zimmerman’s court victory didn’t stop the anti-gunners who sought to demonize all concealed carry gun owners and roll back the “stand your ground” law that enables them to defend their lives without fear of prosecution from the state. Ironically, Zimmerman never used the states “stand your ground” law in his defense, but this hasn’t stopped the anti-gunners from relentlessly attacking it.
The anti-gunners claim that the law needs to be repealed for public safety reasons, yet once again they ignore the facts about the law and its use. The Black community in Florida is buying into this hoopla and many are backing the effort to repeal the law — at their own peril. Eric Holder and even Stevie Wonder are actively trying to push this repeal through. What people backing the repeal don’t seem to grasp is the fact the “stand your ground” law in Florida overwhelmingly benefits Black’s. Approximately 1/3 of Florida “stand your ground” claims in fatal cases have been made by Black defendants. 55% of those “stand your ground” claims were successful in court.
Gun grabbers don’t let pesky facts get in their way. They’re going to use Blacks and children to push their disarmament agenda forward even if it ultimately hurts the very people they claim they want to protect.
For now, the law stands. That may change next year so the good people of Florida need to stand ready to defend their rights and their ability to legally defend their lives if needed. Write your state legislators and let them know you oppose any effort to repeal the “stand your grown” law.
